Beauvale Board School opened 1877

Beauvale Board School opened on Hilltop on February 27, 1877.

Its my famous ex-pupil is the Eastwood-born writer, DH Lawrence.

Lawrence was given special coaching by headmaster WW Whitehead so he could gain a county council scholarship to Nottingham High School in 1896.

This picture above was a postcard in the ‘Rex’ series , was posted from Eastwood in September 1925.

The school recently closed down and the building was sold at auction.

A ‘rainbow garden’ has been created in the grounds to remember Lawrence.
