A new exhibition capturing the history of Eastwood cycling firm Raleigh has been put together byNottinghamshire County Council.

Great British cycling has enjoyed recent golden moments following the success of Bradley Wiggins in the Tour de France, the popularity of the Tour of Britain, and the stunning exploits of Team GB at London 2012.

As a result experts from the authority’s archive team created the Turning Back the Pages exhibition based around Raleigh which is one of the most recognisable names in British cycling.

Started in Nottingham the firmnow has a huge association with Eastwood andis one of the area’s biggest employers.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s Archives Manager Mark Dorrington said: “Our archives service holds some fascinating records related to Raleigh from its time during the war, catalogues of Raleigh bikes, global patents and lots if historical photographs such as this.

“It is well worth reminding ourselves of the rich heritage of cycling, Raleigh and success at a past Games, as we celebrate recent success.”

The exhibition is available in book format or online.
