The Sun Inn, Eastwood Market Place
The Sun Inn, Eastwood
This is a picture of the Sun Inn pub, which, years ago, although it stood in the same place, the area was called ‘Eastwood Market Place’.
The Sun has its place in history as host to a historic meeting of representatives of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire colliery proprietors on August 16, 1832.
The meeting led to the development of the Midland Counties Railway.
For many years people would flock to the Friday evening market held on the market place, in front of the pub.
This postcard, featured in David Ottewell’s ‘Eastwood: On old Picture Postcards’ was posted from Newthorpe in September 1913.
