Children from Riddigns look to have been pulling out all the stops for a very worthy cause in this Memory Lane picture.

The youngsters were pupils at Riddings Infants School, who had been collecting and knitting items for Oxfam’s Ethiopia Famine Appeal.

A representative from the intenrational aid charity went along to the school on the day and collected what the youngsters and teachers had amassed for the appeal.

The famine led to an estimated one million deaths and also saw large-scale fundraising efforts after a report from the region by the BBC. There was funds from Band Aid and Live Aid, lead by pop stars Bob Geldof, from the Boomtown Rats, and Midge Ure, lead singer with Ultravox.
