Pupils at Ilkeston’s former Gladstone Boys’ School have smartened themselves up for this photograph.

It was brought in by Cotmanhay man David Castle, who has supplied the Advertiser with Memory Lane photos in the past.

Gladstone, which famously taught Eastwood-born author DH Lawrence, ceased to exist in 1976 when it merged with Hallcroft and Cavendish schools to form Cantelupe School, which itself closed in 1997. Gladstone also taught one of Ilkeston’s most famous sons, actor Robert Lindsay.
