Anthony John Clarke

The Queen’s Head, Belper, is the venue on Saturday, October 20, for a gig by Anthony John Clarke.

Anthony John is one of the best singer/songwriters on the live circuit today.

After years of learning his trade through folk clubs, concert halls and festivals, one of Ireland’s finest songwriters entertains with his poignant, funny and catchy songs.

In recent years, Anthony John has become very familiar to those who know and follow the folk rock band Fairport Convention via his tour supports, Cropredy festival appearances and sometimes even performing as a duo with Fairport’s Dave Pegg.

The Queen’s Head, Belper, welcomes Anthony John for a night of funny and entertaining songs.

He said: “The songwriter has a responsibility. It’s not enough to put a tune to some words or some words to a tune. The song is a vehicle for a notion that the writer has about something. If it wasn’t, then the song would have no beginning, middle or end. It’s not complicated.

“The notion is what starts the process and the completed song is the fruition. It invites others into the notion, the idea, the feeling, the celebration, the private moment. And if you can provide a laugh or two along the way, it gets my vote.”

Doors open at 8pm and admission is £7.
