This picture, taken nearly 60 years ago, shows an idyllic rural scene on land which was soon to be dug up to make way for extensions to Stanton Ironworks.

Judy Wilson, nee Mills, submitted the picture, which shows farm workers Raymond Pickering, Frank Mills of Stanton Farm, now demolished, and John O’Connor in 1954.

The land, off Lows Lane, became the Kald and Central Melting Plants, which have now also been demolished.

The land is now due to form part of the 1,950-home development planned for the former ironworks by site owners Saint-Gobain.
