Buxton Opera House’s eagerly awaited panto production Peter Pan gets under way on Wednesday, December 12, and runs until Tuesday, January 1.

Peter Pan will star Louis Emerick as Captain Hook and Glen Davies as his pirate sidekick, Smee.

The opportunity to play Captain Hook fulfils a long-held ambition for Louis, who is probably best known to viewers for his 12-year stint as cab driver Mick Johnson in Mersey Television’s iconic series, Brookside. Since then he has played many roles in films and on TV, including regular appearances as the naïve PC Walsh in Last of the Summer Wine.

Glen Davies admits he is “very happy and not just a little bit excited to be playing Smee”.

He will be recognised as the bear-hating caretaker Mr Prank in CBBC’s popular series Bear Behaving Badly. Glen has also appeared in popular TV shows such as New Tricks, Twenty Twelve, Wallender, Law and Order UK and Holby City and he recently appeared with Dame Judi Dench and an all-star cast in the feature film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

This will be the first ever production of Peter Pan at Buxton Opera House and the theatre has called in a team of experts to help with the magical ‘flying’ scenes.

Director/writer Philip Dart said: “Peter Pan is a fantastic story that lends itself well to pantomime as it is so visual. There are mermaids and Peter’s tribe of Lost Boys, not to mention a life-size, ticking crocodile!

“Those who enjoy traditional panto won’t be disappointed as Peter Pan will have all the popular songs, colourful dance numbers and comedy routines that people have come to expect from a Buxton Opera House pantomime.”

Tickets to see Peter Pan at Buxton Opera House are priced from £15.50 to £19.50 and discounts are available.
