CHILDREN from Awsworth Primary School have been admiring the fruits of their labour this week at the village hall.
A grant of £250 from Broxtowe borough councillor Ken RIgby provided the village with plants, seeds and a bedding area in front of the hall building in The Lane.

Pupils quickly grabbed their trowels and spades and set about tending to the beds.

They have now seen flowers blooming and brightening the otherwise drab building.

"It's been a great way for the children to learn all about gardening through actually doing the activity," said headteacher Jane Mainprize.

"I think it's a fantastic idea to involve the children in their local community and to see for themselves how they can make their local environment look more attractive."

Children from all age groups were involved in the planting activity over the last few months.
