The Schools Access Initiative helps schools meet their requirement under the Disability and Discrimination Act to take reasonable steps to improve accessibility to their buildings for disabled pupils, staff and visitors.

And the Langley Mill school received a £3,362 share of the £909,000 grant awarded to make improvements across Derbyshire.

Cllr Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for schools, said: "All schools in Derbyshire prepared strategies to look at the accessibility of their buildings.

"Using the money we made available we then identified those schools with the most urgent needs and carried out work to benefit their local communities.

"Schools are often used as community buildings out of working hours so our on-going work to improve the accessibility of all schools across Derbyshire is good news for whole neighbourhoods."

A further £230,964 of contingency funding has been set aside and pumped into schools where urgent work is needed.
