A GROUP of year nine and ten students who set up a shop to improve links with their school and the community have been nominated for a Nottinghamshire Young People of the Year award.
Samuel Attwood, Samantha Farmer, Heather Boddice, Callum McKane, Wesleigh Lawson, Grace Parker-Slater and Taylor Boulton, were put forward by Jacqui Downs, Student Support Co-ordinator at Eastwood Comprehensive School.

She said: "Since the start of the project the group have really worked their socks off.

"The school have always done a lot for the community and this is a great project."

Their project Supporting Action For Eastwood (SAFE) is a shop where people can come and meet students and teachers as well as showcasing work by pupils at the school.

Computers were installed and in June the centre was officially launched and is currently open two days a week.

Headteacher Mark Pickford visits weekly to meet members of the public and the SAFE team go along after school and at lunchtimes to help out.

The pupils stand to win up to £1,000 if they are chosen as the winners.
