An exhibition on local mining by Anthony Kirby will be held at D.H. Lawrence Heritage, Eastwood.
Anthony is a local miner and historian and his incredible collection dates back to the early 19th century including documents personally signed by Lawrence's father, Arthur.

Through this fascinating journey of photographs and artefacts the exhibition explores what life was like for the mining communities in and around Eastwood during Arthur Lawrence's life (1846 – 1924) as well as the working conditions endured and the accidents witnessed.

Highlights include some shocking photographs of the conditions as well as of the collieries themselves with testimonials from the 1842 Act that help shed some light onto the feelings
of the miners.

The exhibition is being displayed in the Rainbow Gallery, Durban House Heritage Centre until November 2 and is free during the week with a small admission charge at the weekend for non-Broxtowe Borough residents.
