Eastwood Historical Society member Fred Skillington took the floor when he described the Pentrich Revolution of 1817.
A band of impoverished framework knitters set off from Wingfield Park on a march to challenge the government for better conditions.

Initial enthusiasm for the cause soon waned as marchers began to fear the consequences of their actions and the march was finally routed by the local militia at Giltbrook - several calls at locals such as the Sun Inn at Eastwood probably did nothing to enhance their cause!

The meeting also included the society's AGM, during which chairman Peter Cheese reported another good year with a variety of speakers on local topics and an increased membership standing at more than 100.

A healthy balance sheet was also presented and approved.

The society will now break for the summer with the next meeting at the Dora Phillips Hall at 7.30pm on September 17.
