They may not look it, but 1,600 Nottinghamshire girls aged between five and seven - including a detachment from Eastwood - have celebrated their coming of age.
It is 21 years since Rainbows was formed - the section of Girlguiding UK specifically for girls who can't wait to start Brownies - and over 660 members and leaders of Nottinghamshire units were amongst 3,000 Rainbows from all over the Midlands for a
special day out at Twinlakes Park near Melton Mowbray.

Twinlakes is set in 70 acres of rolling countryside and includes dozens of play zones and rides both inside and out, so there was plenty to keep the Rainbows busy.

Whilst the mass party at Twinlakes was the culmination of the anniversary celebrations in the Midlands, Nottinghamshire Rainbows have actually been celebrating their 'coming of age' for some months now, with several units holding special parties for present and former members and others encouraging their members to take part in 'wear your uniform to school' days.

Dee Miles, County Commissioner for Girlguiding Nottinghamshire, said: 'It was great to be part of such a special occasion for our very youngest members, and I'm sure Notts Rainbows will remember the day for years to come.

"However, events like this don't happen without a lot of adult input! We have a constant need for volunteers to bring in fresh ideas, and enquiries from those who feel they have something to offer are always welcome."

For details on events, membership, leadership and volunteering opportunities in Nottinghamshire, contact Girlguiding Nottinghamshire headquarters on 0115 987 7220.
