Authority backs stuff cuts planned for police force

Nottinghamshire Police Authority has officially backed the force’s plans to cut back on staff to save money.

The Government announced Nottinghamshire’s budget settlement for next year would be £8.2m less than it received this year – an equivalent to a five per cent cut in funding, generating a shortfall of £10.3m over the year.

The Police Authority has given its support to the force’s plans to implement voluntary and compulsory redundancy schemes for police staff and has also approved regulation A19 – the compulsory retirement of police officers with 30 years’ pensionable service.

A total of 86 police officers in Nottinghamshire will be affected by Regulation A19.
