Banned driver in court over police chase

Banned driver Daniel Inquieti provided ten minutes of ‘crass stupidity’ when spotted behind the wheel of a BMW convertible, a court heard.

He tried to shake off police by doing 70mph in a built-up area, jumping a red traffic light, going on the wrong side of bollards and venturing onto the offside of the road.

Other drivers had to take evasive action until Inquieti was trapped between an unmarked police car and a marked patrol in a traffic queue near a pedestrian crossing.

Unpaid work for 180 hours was ordered for Inquieti, 33, of Nottingham Road, Eastwood. He was put on probation and given a 10-month prison term, suspended for two years.

Judge David Fletcher told him:”You seem to have an unhealthy love affair with the motor car. It is time you got legal for the first

Inquieti admitted dangerous driving, having no insurance and driving while disqualified.

He had a previous conviction for dangerous driving and was banned for three years. That remains in force until he has passed an extended driving test.

Edna Leonard, prosecuting, told Derby Crown Court that Inquieti was seen driving near Ilkeston at 10.40am on December 13.

“When the officers saw him in the opposite carriageway, he immediately started speeding to get away. He went on the wrong side of the road and of bollards. Other cars coming towards him had to take evasive action.”

David Outterside, mitigating, said: “He realises the folly of this behaviour and the crass stupidity he demonstrated.

Mr Outterside said Inquieti would benefit from an enhanced thinking skills course.
