BBC television presenter Dominic Heale has agreed to become honorary vice-president of Eastwood Collieries Male Voice Choir.

At a recent rehearsal held at the town’s St Mary’s Church, the choir’s chairman Ian Webster presented Dominic with his vice president’s badge and thanked the newsreader for his ongoing support.

In 2009 and 2010, Mr Heale was the master of ceremonies at the choir’s annual charity concerts, staged at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

The newsreader said: “When I was invited to become honorary vice-president I gladly accepted.”

Choir chairman Mr Webster added: “In 2008 he was our compere for our annual charity concert and we struck up a good relationship. We asked him to do the same last year and he agreed and even wavered his fee asking for it to go to the charity. He also did a lot to promote us on TV so we thought it would be nice to confer that honour on him.”
