The driving force behind a campaign to get essentials over to troops in Afghanistan has received a letter of thanks from one of the soldiers.
Bill Smith from Awsworth has spent the last 14 years sending boxes filled with toiletries, snacks and magazines over to serving soldiers and said he was over the moon to receive a letter back from one of the squaddies.
“It is very rewarding to know that the little contributions are bringing such pleasure,” he said.
“It sounds like they are really grateful to receive them.”
Mr Smith began the initiative when he was president of the Bulwell and Basford Rotary Club. He, along with other members, first sent boxes out to Bosnia 14 years ago.
They pack the boxes with sweets, stationary, soup, biscuits and deodorant among other things.
