Book reading competition is set to begin

A 12 week reading competition in Kimberley is being launched by Rev Barbara Holbrook next Saturday.

The Great Kimberley Book Read will be declared opn by Rev Holbrook at the town library on Saturday July 14.

It marks the start of a 12 week feast of reading, with 18 new titles that people can borrow from the library and read, before voting on their favourite.

The winning author will be presented with a prize by MP Anna Soubry at the end of the 12 weeks when school children will parade through town dressed as book characters.

Organiser Gloria Morgan won the Great Caunton Book Read last year and wanted to bring the competition to her home town.

She said: “I am really looking forward to the launch and I’m sure the 18 new titles will prove very popular.”
