Thirty-four years after the first publication, a new edition of a local history book that traces the origins of street names in Langley Mill and the surrounding area has just been published.
It details the origins of every street in Heanor, Codnor, Langley Mill, Shipley and Smalley.
Heanor and District Local History Society is behind the project, which was launched at its recent meeting.
The book is called ‘The Origin of Heanor & District Street Names’.
Clive Booth, secretary of the society and co-author of the book, said: “It’s fascinating the wealth of history that hides behind the names of streets in our area.”
The 138-page illustrated book costs £6 and is available from usual outlets. It can be ordered from the society, c/o 33 Brook Street, Loscoe, Heanor, Derbyshire DE75 7LP.
