BRINSLEY is really in the Christmas spirit thanks to local councillors.

Brinsley Parish Council organised a special Christmas event last month including a Christmas Service at St James’ Church, Brinsley, led by Rev Liz Murray.

Residents and friends were joined by parish council chairman Cllr Christine Bird, Eastwood mayor Cllr Ken Woodhead and Broxtowe’s deputy mayor Cllr Margaret Handley.

Following the service the group called in to Moorlands Nursing Home to sing carols and spread Christmas cheer and then made its way to the parish hall which was packed with stalls from local community groups. Visitors were entertained by musical duo Sheepish Grin and Santa found time in his busy schedule to pay a visit.

The day was brought to an end with the turning on of the village’s Christmas lights and a spectacular fireworks display.
