Aside from the turn-of-the-century clothing, you’d be forgiven for thinking that not much has changed on Ilkeston Market Place for more than 100 years.

This photograph, sent in by Tony Leivers, shows market day in the 1900s with St Mary’s Church looming in the background.

Shoppers are milling around the fountain beside the former tram lines which ran through the Market Place and old gas lamp posts.

One trader’s sign is visible, which says ‘This is the Yorkshire Butcher’.
