Call for rise in firearms licensing charges

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping has urged Prime Minister David Cameron to support an increase in fees to cover firearms licensing.

The fees for administering licensing is paid for by Nottinghamshire taxpayers and has not been increased since January 2001 and Mr Tipping said that the costs to police forces in administering the lengthy and time-consuming licensing process far outweighs the income generated from fees.

This year, the cost of firearm licensing in Nottinghamshire is more than £450,000, yet the income received from fees was only £82,000 in 2012-2013 and £56,000 in 2013-14 so it is difficult to justify public support for shooting sports in Nottinghamshire.
