England’s chief medical officer has called for parents in Eastwood and Kimberley to get their toddlers protected from flu after a study revealed that three in four miss the free vaccine.

Professor Dame Sally Davies, has warned that too few toddlers are having the seasonal flu vaccine turning young children into ‘super-spreaders’ of the virus.

This is because children have close contact with friends, don’t often wash their hands and don’t cover their mouths when coughing, and the disease can spread to elderly relatives and develop into bronchitis and pneumonia.

Last winter was a relatively mild flu season and health agencies have warned of complacency when it comes to getting immunised.
