Canoeist in critical condition after incident in Derbyshire River Derwent

A canoeist has been left in a critical condition after an incident in the River Derwent in Derbyshire.

The 32-year-old man was canoeing along the river near to Crown Square in Matlock at around 12.45pm yesterday (January 3), when he got into difficulty.

Police attended the scene together with other emergency services.

A force spokesman said the man was taken to the Royal Derby hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Anyone that may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Derbyshire police on 101 quoting incident number 280 of January 3.
