A FAMILY from Awsworth is hosting a charity golf day to raise money for a Nottingham hospital.

Mandy Gentry wants to raise money for Nottingham City Hospitals’ neo-natal unit after her son Riley was born premature and spent eight months there.

The event will be held today, May 4, at Wollaton Golf Club and the family is hoping to raise over £2,000.

His great aunty Mandy Gentry said: “It’s to pay the hospital back for the support they gave to Riley. He was in hospital for a long time and it was touch and go at times. The staff were so fantastic and the family just wants to give something back.”

Riley, who was born at 25 weeks old weighing just 1lb, is now three-years-old and a golf fanatic.

Ms Gentry said: “Riley is crazy on golf which is why we chose to do it. He’ll be taking the first shot on the day!

“He can’t wait.”

There will be a raffle and an auction with prizes including signed Lee Westwood memorabilia.

Other prizes came from business around Kimberley and Ilkeston who donated several gifts including vouchers.

The event starts at 1pm and players are paying £40 to play.
