Children enjoy Coronation party

Another 1953 street party photograph from Tony Leivers.

Tony Leivers has sent in another photograph of what he believes to be a Coronation party in Ilkeston.

Street parties were held to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne across the country in 1953 –and Ilkeston was no exception.

This one, Tony thinks, was taken in Spinney Road.

His last picture, published in the Advertiser last month , may have actually been of a VE Day party rather than to celebrate the Coronation, one reader told us. Margaret Hoyes said she recognised herself in the photo.
