staff at a chip shop in Eastwood raised money for a customer suffering with Motor Neurone Disease.

George’s chippy in Nottingham Road raised £270 from a raffle and tombola at Christmas and presented Motor Neurone sufferer Noreen Andrew with the cheque in the shop last week.

Chip shop owner Una Tomlinson said she had planned to put on the raffle and tombola anyway because it was Christmas, and decided to donate all of the takings to regular customer Noreen after discovering she suffered with the illness.

Una invited Noreen, her daughter and her two sisters over for the cheque presentation last Friday, February 11.

She said: “She was really happy. She’s not one for a lot of fuss, but she was really flattered that I did it for her.”

Raffle and tombola prizes given out throughout December included alcohol, chocolates, teddy bears, toiletries and gifts.

Una said she now plans to hold a raffle and tombola every year.
