Church bibles and records trashed

Vandals broke into St John’s Church in Aldercar near Langley Mill and tore apart a bible, hymn books and a memorial book.

The break-in is thought to have happened some time between Sunday, January 20, and the morning of Thursday, January 24, when the damage was discovered.

The vandals broke in by smashing two small lead windows on either side of the building. Once inside, they ripped open books.

The church’s official record of deaths and births was kept locked in a safe, said the Rev Karen Padley.
