EASTWOOD and Kimberley folk are getting behind a campaign for a cinema to be built on the Giltbrook Retail Park or the Kimberley brewery site, according to a local councillor.
Cllr Richard Robinson says he has been inundated with emails of support for the idea and hopes a cinema would help bring people into the area and create jobs.
He said: “It would provide regeneration and employment and be great for the area.
“There’s always talk of housing but how about something more innovative that would give tourism a boost and provide jobs?
“It would be great for tourism and investment, especially if it were to be coupled with something else as well. If it were to go on the brewery site then maybe it could be alongside a restaurant perhaps.”
Resident Christine Thomas who lives in Cossall originally suggested the idea to Cllr Robinson and sparked his interest in the scheme.
She said: “The area is lacking in entertainment facilities and I have seen how much in demand the Ritz Cinema at Belper is, and know many people who are prepared to travel to Belper to use it.”
And the councillor, who represents Kimberley and Cossall on Broxtowe Borough Council, unveiled the scheme the idea in his monthly newsletter this week.
