A MAN who stood trial accused of raping and abusing three children has not had all the charges against him dropped.
We revealed last week how Michael Wharton, of Percy Street, Eastwood, was found not guilty of the abuse on two of the alleged victims, but the jury could not reach a decision on the third.
The prosecution was given the option for a re-trial in respect of the third alleged victim but decided against it, clearing Wharton of all charges.
The 22-year-old was accused of repeatedly raping one child when they were aged between eight and 16, raping a second when they were ten and sexually assaulting a young toddler.
The not guilty verdict on two of the three alleged victims was a unanimous decision returned by the jury.
