Competition from 15 districts

A group campaigning to get the tram through Eastwood and Kimberley are up against competition from another 15 areas in Nottinghamshire.

KENTAG – Kimberley, Eastwood and Nuthall Tram Action Group – says there are 16 areas in total interested, but they are confident they have the best case.

Areas include Mansfield, Netherfield and Gamston, but KENTAG member Richard obinson said there was ‘a clear momentum’ for the local route.

He said: “Bearing in mind there are a number of factors we have on our side including congestion along the A610 corridor, an existing high profile campaign by KENTAG, and the simple fact that there is largely an existing track bed between Phoenix Park and Kimberley that can be utilised.”

The group and key councillors from the area met with the leader of Nottinghamshire County Council last week, Cllr Alan Rhodes, to register their interest and get his support. They are now meeting with the leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, Milan Radulovic, at the end of the month, when they will ask for financial help for a feasibility study.
