AN Eastwood councillor donated £250 to a friendship club.

Cllr Keith Longdon used his Nottinghamshire County Council fund to help Eastwood Friendship Club with its running costs.

Treasurer of the club, Eva Wharmby, said she would spend the money on a day trip and a couple of meals out.

“This has been a really big boost for us,” she said.

“We’re really pleased. We really appreciate it.

“We usually go to Scotland for the trip out and we go to a place in Matlock for the meal.”

Each year the club receives £100 funding from Eastwood Town Council and £100 from Broxtowe Borough Council.

The 30 group members meet at St Mary’s Church Hall every Wednesday for socialising, quizzes and to enjoy the guest speakers.

Mrs Wharmby has been the treasurer for eight years.
