Councillors criticise lack of affordable homes

COUNCILLORS criticised a plan to build a housing estate in Langley Mill without including homes for rent.

The 92-home project is planned for land between Station Road, a railway and factories, Amber Valley Borough Council’s planning committee heard.

Two years ago, it was approved on condition that 30 per cent were ‘affordable homes’, either rented or on special mortgage deals.

The committee has now allowed the project to go ahead with no such homes.

Cllr John Nelson said: “Langley Mill really needs affordable housing. I am very disappointed.”

And Cllr John Walker agreed and said the area was high on a list of ‘socially deprived areas’.

“People deserve social housing,” he said.
