AN Eastwood couple celebrated 50 years of marriage with two parties for family and friends.
Graham and Jean Wilson had a surprise get together at Beauavle Methodist Church with friends and a party at Eastwood Hall for family.
Jean, 68, said: “It was absolutely wonderful. The afternoon at the church was a real surprise. Our friends decorated the room beautifully. And it was lovely to get all the family together because they are all spread around.
“It felt quite amazing. I can’t believe it’s been 50 years since we married!” Jean added.
The couple, who live in Park Crescent, asked for donations to two charities, instead of gifts.
“We asked for donations to Framework and Relate because Framework is for the homeless and we have always had a nice home together, and Relate is for marriage counselling and we have always had a good relationship,” Jean said.
Graham and Jean met when they lived in Hucknall through a mutual friend.
At the time Jean was in the Hucknall Co-op Choir.
Graham said: “I married her for her voice and the rest came with it,” he joked.
From there they moved to Beeston, before living in Africa for eight years.
They moved to Eastwood 22 years ago and lived in Brunel Avenue before buying their house in Park Crescent.
Jean said the secret to a long healthy marriage was ‘to never go to sleep on an argument’, and Graham said it was ‘to always give in!’
The happy couple have four children, one of which now lives in Australia, and five grandchildren.
Graham used to be a maths teacher and Jean used to work in catering.
