Drivers arrested after crackdown

Arrests were made and cautions issued when two neighbourhood policing teams joined forces to tackle anti-social behaviour issues and illegal vehicles.

Pc Andy Kendall-Edwards from the Cotmanhay and Shipley View Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team and Pcso Matt Lewis from Kirk Hallam and Hallam Fields team joined up to target issues in both neighbourhoods.

On August 30, a group of youths with a mini moto were stopped on Nottingham Road and Little Hallam Lane. The vehicle was seized under Section 165 as the driver had no licence or insurance.

The youths were also warned about their behaviour and the affect of it on the local residents.

On the same evening a van was also seized under Section 165 for having no insurance on Cotmanhay Road from a 25-year-old man.

Later that night a further vehicle was seized along with a motorbike in Kenilworth Drive and Queen Elizabeth Way area.

One male driver was arrested for having no insurance and the possession of cannabis and the other male driver for the possession of an offensive weapon.

Pc Andy Kendall-Edwards said: “All in all it was a very busy night but we were pleased with the results.

“Some of the concerns that our residents have are in relation to youths on illegal off-road bikes and their anti-social behaviour, the offenders moving around across the neighbourhoods we police.

“Our actions concerning the above prove that we will not tolerate illegal vehicles on the road or anti-social behaviour.

“If you have any concerns in relation to anti-social behaviour please call us as soon as possible. It means we can act quickly and as seen in these cases, sometimes catch the offenders in the act.”
