pupils and staff at Nuthall’s Horsendale Primary School bid a fond farewell to deputy headteacher Mike Ridge after 24 years.

The deputy headteacher is taking early retirement at the age of 57 was centre of attention for the farewell celebrations, nicknamed ‘Happy Mr Ridge Day’.

Pupils past and present turned up to the retirement bash, as well as his wife Helen and daughter Alice.

Mr Ridge was described as a ‘fantastic teacher’ by headteacher Brian Summers.

He is now planning to take up a foundation course in art.
