An Ilkeston couple who celebrated 60 years of marriage this year met the Queen when she visited Nottingham yesterday.
George and Bunty Nightingale were married on March 1 1952. Earlier this year the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, William Tucker, invoted couples celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary to apply for a place at a special reception.
Speaking before the meeting the couple said they were thrilled to have been invited.
Bunty said: “The wedding anniversary was lovely and this will be the icing on the cake for us.
“We can’t wait.”
Mayor of Erewash Cllr Jennifer Hulls was also invited to meet the Queen as she visitied the area as part of her Diamond Jubilee Tour.
