A starving Labrador was found wandering the streets of Eastwood and an appeal has been made to find its owners.
Stella was found weighing just 16 kilograms and suffering a chronic skin condition and the council now wants help to identify its owners.
Cabinet member for environment Cllr Stan Heptinstall, said: “We take the issue of abandoned dogs very seriously – especially when dogs have been mistreated and made to suffer in this way.
“These tough economic times mean that the council has picked up more abandoned dogs than ever before.
“We would appeal for anyone with information about Stella and her owners to come forward to help us to understand how she came to be abandoned. All information will be
dealt with in confidence.”
Eight-year-old Stella was found by the council’s neighbourhood wardens on Thursday, February 21.
She is being cared for by a veterinary nurse at Eastwood’s Lawrence Veterinary Centre and has also been offered a rescue place with the Labrador Lifeline Trust, who will nurse her back to health and find her a new and forever home.
Anybody with any information about Stella should call the council on 0115 917 3142 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
