24 years for school cook

a KITCHEN assistant has retired from Kimberley Comprehensive School after 24 years.

Staff at the school threw Carol Norman a party and invited old colleagues to wish her well in her retirement.

The 65-year-old was given flowers, chocolates, jewellery and an ornament.

Mrs Norman said she was looking forward to spending more time reading, listening to music and seeing more of her grandchildren. She is also looking forward to going on holiday to Yorkshire next month and going on a three-week cruise around America next year.

Mrs Norman said: "It's a big thing leaving a job after that amount of time but you have to move on. And nowadays we have to leave to make the jobs available to all the youngsters struggling to find work. I'll miss the people though. We all got on well."
