4,000 visit town

More than 4,000 people visited Eastwood during the two week DH Lawrence Festival.

Town Mayor Brian Griffin said: “It’s great news. It just proves that everything about Lawrence is still vibrant.”

The ninth annual festival that ended last week after a packed programme of over 60 events was said to be the most successful yet.

Cllr Griffin put this down to more hands on events, such as days at Beauvale Priory.

Activities included guided countryside walks, lectures, reading sessions, bike rides and a heritage open weekend.

Lawrence fans can still see an exhibition of rare and controversial Lawrence paintings on display at the Heritage Centre until November.
