£5,000 reward to catch burglars
Crimestoppers is offering a reward of £5,000 to help catch the offenders who robbed an elderly woman in her own home a fortnight ago.
63-year-old Dalwinder Dhami from Kimberley was held down as four offenders searched her home, demanding cash and threatened to kill her.
They threatened her with a knife and sprayed her in the face with detergent before escaping with the jewellery she was wearing, and £24 cash.
She has since suffered a heart attack and is critically ill in hospital.
No one has been arrested and detectives are keen to hear from anyone with information about the incident, which happened in Bassett Close at around 7.50pm on Saturday August 25.
The four offenders are all described as white and aged between 18 and 21 years old.
All were around 5ft 6ins - 5ft 7ins tall and three had short dark hair. One was of plump build and was wearing a distinctive light blue hat and white sweatshirt.
Detective Sergeant Steve Wragg, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who has subsequently suffered a heart attack and is currently very seriously ill in hospital.
“The offenders who carried this out are undoubtedly callous with no concern whatsoever for the vulnerability of their victim and the fear she felt. We need to trace them and bring them before the courts as soon as possible, before they attempt something like this again.
“I’m grateful to Crimestoppers for offering this reward to assist the investigation. I would urge anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers anonymously at the earliest opportunity.
“If you were in the Bassett Close or Alma Hill area on that Saturday evening a fortnight ago, did you see a group of four young people similar to the descriptions we have provided?
”If so, and you haven’t already done so, please pick up the phone and let us know.”
The reward is only payable for information given to Crimestoppers via their dedicated 0800 555 111 phone number that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the robbery.
The service is anonymous, but the charity operates a system which ensures those who provide the vital information can claim their reward.
