A lasting
tribute to former pupil

The family of former Aldercar pupilCharlotte Blackman are to take part in a series of fundraisers in memory of their beloved daughter.

Coach driver Kevin Blackman, 45, lost 22-year-old Charlotte in a freak landslide accident when coastal rocks fell on her on a beach during a family holiday in Dorset.

Since the tragic July day, the family has raised more than £2,600 for The Charlotte Blackman Memorial Fund, which they set up to provide help to local autism services and vulnerable children.

And in May, Kevin says he will complete a skydive for the cause .

He said: “I’m scared of heights but I will go back to what happened on that beach that day.

“That will be the inspiration I need to push me out of the aeroplane door.”

The Blackmans, pictured here receiving a cheque for £650 from Aldercar Comumnity and Language College following a pink and purple themed non-uniform day there last month, are inviting people to a fun day on Friday, November 4, to raise money for the cause.

The event at Heanor Miners’ Welfare is to feature 15 stalls, children’s entertainers, a bouncy castle, a penalty shoot out and a raffle - with a top prize of a flights to Tenerife.

Kevin said the family’s fundraising efforts have helped them cope with their grief.

He said: “It’s this stuff that keeps us going . There is still a lot of hurt, but we are trying to think positively and think what she would want us to do.”

Caring Charlotte had just received first class honours
degree at Derby University when she was killed and was on course to fulfil her ambition of becoming a teacher.

Her mother Rachel, 44, thanked all those who had donated to the fund so far.

She said: “It just shows what impact she made in such a short space of time.”

The money raised will go to Derbyshire Autism Services Group, where Charlotte volunteered, and could help take local vulnerable children on holiday.
