An ‘inadequate bus service’, says councillor
A councillors is fighting to get a better service through Awsworth and parts of Kimberley in the evenings and on Sundays.
Andy Cooper said the service in Awsworth and some areas of Kimberley was ‘inadequate’ and reckons the number 27 bus service should extend its hours and extend the route up to Phoenix Park.
The roads neglected in Kimberley are Swingate, Maws Lane and Alma Hill, Cllr Cooper said.
In a recent meeting with Cllr Cooper and MP Anna Soubry, Trent Barton, who run the 27 service, agreed to consider a later service on Friday and Saturday evening which would service Swingate and Awsworth.
But the company said it would not look at extending the service to the other roads in Kimberley, and said they did not have any plans to extend the service past the Larkfield Estate where it terminates.
Cllr Cooper said: “It’s not good enough. Maws Lane, Alma Hill and Hardy Street are not served at all after 4pm.
“It’s residents in this area, particularly Amla Hill and Hardy Street that I get most of the complaints from. There’s a lot of isolated elderly people up there.”
Cllr Cooper went to a recent Broxtowe Borough Council meeting and was ensured his comments would get passed on to Nottinghamshire County Council.
The county council recently closed a three-month consultation asking residents how they want to see their transport services across the county operating in the future.
The authority spends over £30 million per year on transport services and financially supports some bus services, as well as Notts home-to-school and adult social care transport.
