Apprentice of the year for Jordan

A printworks apprentice has won a prestigious national award and been described as ‘an outstanding young man’ by his boss.

Jordan Moore beat off hundreds of nominees to win Apprentice of the Year at the British Printing Industries Federation Awards.

His boss Kevin Marks said: “He is quite an outstanding young man to be honest.

“We thought he was worthy of the award because of the amount of effort that he had put in.

“He comes to work, gets on with his job and does his course work really well.

“He has been consistently good.

“It’s quite refreshing to see because all you hear are the bad things about young people these days,

“It’s nice for him, and that will live with him for the rest of his life.

“We are really proud of him.”

20-year-old Jordan has a three year apprentice contract at Phase Print in Underwood, but is taking his final exam in November, a year early, because he has done so well.

Mr Marks said: “He has passed all his exams with flying colours, worked hard and is excellent on the press.

“He is running it on his own already.”

Jordan was presented with an award and £500 cash at a prestigious black tie event at London’s Guoman Hotel, which is on the River Thames with panoramic views over Tower Bridge.

A spokesperson said there was an overwhelming number of entries for the awards this year and said they drew a shortlist from an ‘exceptionally high calibre’ of entrants.

Hosted by Bobby Davro, entertainment on the night included BBC’s ex Strictly Come Dancing stars Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova, who are still the most successful male and female professionals in the history of the show.
