Black tie do to raise money for charity

The owner of a Kimberley cafe is organising a black tie event to raise money for the Broxtowe Mayor’s chosen charities.

Nygel Stevenson is organising a bash at the town’s cricket club to raise money for the Ryan Lee Trust Fund and the British Legion – charity’s chosen by the Mayor, Cllr Margaret Handley.

“The Mayor wanted to do something in Kimberley – a one off special event locally – so she came to me to help,” said Nygel, who runs Madhatters Tea Rooms.

“It’s really great to do something for the local community because that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?,” he said.

“I love doing anything for the community. Anything to have a lot of fun and raise awareness of charities. The Ryan Lee Trust is quite close to me now because I know Ryan’s mum and dad.

“I’m looking forward to it. It should be a good night,” added Nygel.

The ‘black tie and posh frock’ event will be held at the cricket club on February 1 from 7.30pm.

There will be a raffle, tombola, buffet and complimentary glass of champagne on arrival. Local singers Daniel Scott, Megan Sugarman and Tom Wardle will provide the entertainment for the night.

Nygel is determined to sell as many tickets as possible, but he said so far ticket sales have been a bit slow.

“We need to sell at least 60 tickets,” he said.

“I really hope people come along because it will be a great night. It will bring all the local community together and it’s for two really great causes.”

Nygel is planning a celebration to mark the first anniversary of Madhatters Cafe in Main Street next month.

Since opening the business has gone from strength to strength and on some days he now opens until 7pm due to customer demand.

Tickets are available from Madhatters in Main Street, or call 07891 988 787.
