Borough council is given objection for Oxylane
Nottinghamshire County Council has objected to plans for a 50 acre sports village planned in Nuthall, saying it goes against national planning policy.
The council says the site constitutes ‘inappropriate development’ within the greenbelt, and has also objected on the grounds there is ‘insufficient’ information about the impact on the environment.
The environment and sustainability committee met last Thursday, and has now advised Broxtowe Borough Council – the authority responsible for making the final decision – to not go ahead with the plans.
Cllr Richard Butler, chairman of the county council’s environment and sustainability committee, said: “The county council considers that the proposed development constitutes inappropriate development within the greenbelt and is therefore contrary to paragraph 89 of the national planning policy.
“We also object to the proposals on the grounds that insufficient information has been submitted with regard to the potential impact upon the landscape, historic environment and ecology of the surrounding area
“If Broxtowe Borough Council is minded to approve the application, the county council requests that its concerns are addressed prior to planning permission being granted,” added Cllr Butler.
The Oxylane sports village is based on a French model and would be the first of its kind in the UK.
Plans for the £15m site off the Eastwood Bypass would include netball and tennis courts and provision for football, cycling and indoor workouts. There would be a Decathlon store and changing facilities.
