Brinsley animal rescue centre raises over £2,000

An animal rescue centre raised over £2,000 after opening its doors to the public earlier this month.

Brinsley Animal Rescue hosted the open day to raise money for its upkeep.

Jon Beresford, a trustee and chairman of the charity, said: "The day was a great success. We had about 500 people come throughout the day."

There were a variety of stalls including Brinsley Headstocks, Cats Protection and the Animal Accident Rescue Unit.

The centre has been open three years and owner Beth Hewis said each year more and more animals come in and the running costs go up. She said it now costs 20,000 a year to run.

The centre in Hobsic Close takes in wildlife, small pets and farm animals and relies on adoption fees and donations. It takes in about 1,000 animals each year and has a blind bull called Borris.
