CCTV cameras help to convict pair at bookies
Two men who pretended to be witnesses to a robbery were caught after they were spotted with the masked gunmen on CCTV just before the raid.
Jody Fullwood and Dominic Wright were drunk and on bail when they were involved in the 6,000 robbery at Ladbrokes in Eastwood on March 26.
Staff allowed them through the security door because they knew them well, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
But the pair were closely followed by two robbers – one with a gun.
The raiders, who had their faces covered, jumped over the counter and grabbed the cash from the safe and till before escaping. Fullwood, 26, of Wilson Road, and Wright, 19, of Argyle Mews, both Eastwood, appeared to be shocked but clueless as to who the men were.
But CCTV in nearby Wellington Street revealed the men had been with the raiders and a fifth person.
"Both defendants accept they knew there was a gun in the possession of the robbers," said prosecutor Peter Walmsley.
"The camera shows the five of them walking up the street and Fullwood and Wright don't exactly look frightened in their presence.
"After the robbery, Fullwood and Wright were seen by one witness signaling to each other as if the robbery had been successful."
There is no proof either defendant got a cut of the cash.
Both are too scared to say who was behind the raid.
Judge Michael Stokes, QC, Recorder of Nottingham, sentenced them to three years and nine months each in custody for the robbery, which they admitted.
Wright, a convicted burglar, had been on bail for affray.
The judge gave him an extra six-month sentence.
"You both lent yourselves to a very serious crime, a crime which is becoming far too common in Nottingham."
Fullwood, who has previous for supplying drugs, was on bail at the time.
He has since received a community order for another offence.
Robert Egbuna, defending Fullwood, said his client was ashamed and remorseful.
Julia King, for Wright, said that he was horrified at what happened in the robbery.
The judge accepted they played lesser roles.
He added: "They may think they are in the Premier League, but they are really lurking at the bottom of the Championship... like Nottingham Forest."
A police spokesman said: "We would still like to identify the two hooded robbers, who can been seen in the CCTV images, and bring them to justice."
