Charity cash for sick kids
A life-saving club for children in Nottinghamshire has raised £1,350 for the Queen’s Medical Centre.
The club presented the cash to Carol Henson, who is raising money for the hospital’s chidren’s ward.
Carol’s daughter Olivia had Neuroblastoma, a rare children’s cancer, and underwent life-saving treatment for it last year.
Both Carol and Olivia, of Langley Mill were special guests at the Ken Martin Life Saving Club in Bulwell where founder Maureen Weaver and more than 40 members surpised them with a cheque to put towards the £5,000 that Carol had raised so far.
The Aquanauts Life-Saving Club, the only one of its kind in the county, holds sponsored swims each year, in support of a charity chosen by its members.
Many of them live in the Eastwood, Kimberley, Jacksdale and Selston, and had heard all about Olivia and the amazing treatment she receieved at the Queen’s Medical Centre’s E38 children’s ward.
Carol said: “Our lives have been a rollercoaster for the past year, but the amazing support from so many kind and generous people in the community has been uplifting and so encouraging.
“We have two of the best hospitals in the country here in Nottingham and I am so pleased to be able to give something back. The staff on the ward were simply amazing.”
Olivia is now two years old and has made a full recovery.
Carol said: “Olivia is a beautiful child who has gone through so much, but she is so happy and has so much to look forward to.”
